16 spots where to fall in love with Chicago – ultimate travel guide

Are you planning a trip and looking for an awesome American city?
What about the windy city Chicago?
As a foreigner, I’ve spent 2 weeks as an exchange college student there.
If you are interested to get to know my 16 places, where I fell in love with this city, keep on reading.
I’ve been to the U.S. several times and graduated high school there. Therefore I’ve seen various different states but Chicago is just something else.
1. Explore downtown
You first place to get to know the city, should be downtown. All of the skyscrapers are just breathtaking.
2. Go Shopping
Chicago downtown has thousands of shopping opportunities. From Target, to Urban Outfitters, there are shops for everyone. I remember, that I’ve spent 2 hours, just at Victoria’s Secret, because it was the largest one, I’ve ever been to.
3. The Bean
Your next step should definitely be ‘The Bean’. Pretty sure, you’ve seen this one in plenty of movies.
4. Grab some amazing food
The restaurant possibilities are endless in downtown Chicago. I can highly recommend the ‘protein bar & kitchen’ for the ones who like to eat something healthy and the ‘Cheesecake Factory’ for the fast food lovers.
5. Take a look at the Flamingo Statue
Ever seen a statue like that? The flamingo statue is huuuge and totally worth a visit.
6. Be amazed by the historic architecture
On my trip, we’ve visited some old American banks. So many gold details!
And the ceilings are so high in those buildings.
If you are interested, you should consider booking a tour to take a look inside these amazing buildings.
The history of the city and the old architecture are amazing.
7. Water Taxi on the Chicago River
Want to do something unique?
What about taking a water taxi on the Lake Michigan?
You’ll get an amazing view on downtown Chicago.
There are different destinations were you can get off the water taxi.
8. Go to a museum
On my trip I’ve visited so many museums in Chicago.
My favorite one was the ‘Field Museum’ where you can see a skeletons from real a dinosaurs.
9. Navy Pier
Wanna go on a ferris wheel? Navy Pier is super cool to see the skyline of the city. Also, there is an amazing food court.
10. Hop on a subway
The public transportation in Chicago is very good. You can easily get anywhere by using the subway. Depending on the hours, it can be a little bit stressful.
11. Lama Wall at Chopo Chicken
Have you ever seen a wall like that?
Totally Instagram worthy to pose in front of!
And the food at Chopo Chicken is so amazing! Super healthy and delicious. Went there several times.
12. Lincoln Park Neighbourhood
Our hostel was located in the Lincoln Park Neighbourhood.
And doesn’t the houses look super nice?
Plenty of cool architecture to discover and also lots of shops near by.
13. Lincoln Park Zoo
You will not believe this, but this zoo is totally free!
Located in the Lincoln Park, you can see animals like flamingos and zebras and get a nice view on the city.
Totally worth one or more visits!
14. Lake Michigan
Starting from the Lincoln Park, you can walk on the waterside directly to downtown Chicago.
Since Chicago has it’s own beach next to the Lake Michigan the possibilities are endless from yoga to renting a bike. You can do just so much.
We even played beach volleyball on our trip, ate water melon and swam in the water.
15. Willis Tower
Pretty sure you’ve seen this place somewhere on the internet. The Willis Tower with it’s famous glass floor is an ultimate must for cool photos and a view, you’ll never forget!
16. The Signature Room

And lastly, my highlight on my trip and probably from many other people, is the ‘Signature Room’ in the John Hancock Center. You can either eat at the restaurant lounge at the 96th floor or get something to drink on the 95th floor. The view was just the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. We watched the sunset, drank some nice cocktails and ate crème brûlée. Just the place to be!
